Winter weather results in multiple crashes

First responders were busy on area highways on Wednesday evening.

Multiple crashes were reported on Highway 401, causing lane closures and prompting emergency crews to urge drivers to stay off the roads.

The West Elgin Fire Department and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a collision near Graham Road, near West Lorne, that saw a tractor-trailer end up in the ditch.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed so the vehicle could be removed.

A similar incident was reported by Elgin County OPP near Tilbury.

Police closed the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at Queens Line to remove a jack-knifed tractor-trailer from the road.

No injuries were reported in either case.

The highway is both spots is now open.
